Solid state drives (SSDs) are the inevitable future of mobile computing, but a new experiment by Tom’s Hardware is extremely disappointing. It ends up that the touted power savings of SSDs over their moving-parts-laden cousins are nonexistent. In fact, SSDs are sucking more power than conventional hard drives. How is this possible?

The post below I made back on August 30, 2005 about how Hurricane Katrina was starting severely affect gas prices and how people were waiting in long lines for gas like happened in the 70s fuel crisis. Looking back at the images, I see how cheap gas was and I wish we were back at those days. Here in East Central Alabama, we will probably be at the $4 mark in about another week. Saw a station today that was at 3.98 a gallon.

Hurricane Katrina may be gone, but she has left in her wake rising gas prices and long lines as the gas stations. The pictures below were taken this afternoon. The picture on the left is the price at the local Shell station and at the same time the Cowboy’s Station nearby had not rasied their price yet and people were lined up to the street getting gas (right). This is unreal.
